This is to advise you that effective June 5, 01:00 AM ET, visa-exempt foreign national passengers traveling by marine vessel seeking direct entry to Canada from Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon will require an electronic travel authorization (eTA), unless otherwise exempt. This requirement applies to passengers arriving by all vessel types, with the exception of cruise ships.

The following groups are exempt from this new requirement:

  • Cruise ship passengers from visa-exempt countries;

  • Crew/seafarers actively working on a commercial vessel, including cruise ships;

  • Residents of Saint-Pierre-et Miquelon who are French citizens; and,

  • Citizens and permanent residents of the United States

All other visa-exempt foreign national passengers should obtain an eTA via this application process. An eTA is a light-touch, fully digital application for visa-exempt foreign nationals. It allows Canada to screen visitors for migration and safety/security risks before they come to Canada. At a cost of $7 CAD or about 4 Euros, the application is low-burden, mostly automated, and processed within minutes.

Please note that there are no changes to the existing requirements for visa-required foreign nationals. A temporary resident visa will continue to be required for entry into Canada.

For more information on this new requirement, go to the following link their “Find out If You Need a Visa” Tool and Entry Requirements page.

Should you have any questions, you may contact our office directly at the contact info below.
