Lake Academy is an elementary school that serves the communities of Fortune and Grand Bank. Primary and elementary children are bused from Grand Bank daily while high school students from Fortune are bused to Grand Bank.  

A few years ago Fortune had two schools, Lake Academy and Fortune Collegiate. Government financial restraints and declining enrollment in many schools around the province forced changes and the closure of many buildings. With a distance of only four kilometers separating Fortune and Grand Bank, sharing educational facilities was a logical move. The decision was made to maintain the newer buildings, which were John Burke High in Grand Bank and Lake Academy in Fortune.
